Extremism…the dangerous beast haunting us

Extremism as a term is being far from moderation, insisting on siding to a certain point without any intention to change position, thus taking this side as an alternative to moderation and stability.

Extremism becomes very dangerous when linked to militant extremists, as it turns into violence, chaos, and violation of public order, with the consequent negative effects and the destruction of social and economic fabric...

Extremism has become a means to seize power, hiding behind broad titles and fake revolutions to convince people to support its plot that may seem as if it seeks justice, but in reality it aims to cancel the other.

Such extremism aims to eliminate everyone outside its circle, and is not committed to any values or morals whatsoever..

From here, we can say it is only normal that extremism is linked to sectarianism, as it calls for differentiation and discrimination, and commensurate with the attempts to declare one’s sect as the righteous and privileged among all others.

Ignorance with sectarian extremism share the process of conflict between the poles of extremism, so that the social environment becomes ripe for wars and strife. The result of course is chaos that blinds the eyes of everyone, picturing everyone else as the enemy.

The dangers of extremism are not limited to the evil act of demolishing what currently exists, as it forms a massive barrier that impedes progress and development, by eliminating the components of the society, or what is considered “the other”.

In other words, extremism is on the other side contrary to democracy, and can be defined as being hostile to freedom and social peace, and therefore can take a variety of forms, such as racial discrimination in Western societies, after the Christian sects fought for hundreds of years.

Unfortunately, extremism is prevailing in the world, while its repercussions and damages reached the Arabs and Muslims, destroying countries and nations, especially after extremists now control the means of survival on large tracts of land and seized the sources of energy in Syria and Iraq.

This phenomenon, which combines extremism and terrorism, was nurtured in a climate of Western freedom to become a scourge threatening the existence of nations and peoples. What is more worse, is that some media outlets relate this phenomenon to Islam, ignoring the fact that our religion calls for moderation and therefore is incompatible with extremism and aggression in terms of its call for mutual understanding and integration between individuals and peoples.

Extremism practices have reached a risky stage, especially through the gruesome acts of beheadings, murder, exile, slavery and the denial of human rights and the most basic international covenants and social charters.

Such horrendous acts are exactly the pretext needed by media to sabotage the image of Arabs and Muslims, especially by media circles associated with influential circles that are hostile to our communities.

The examples of extremism are turned into stereotypes that build the case of Israelis to justify their aggression and occupation of Arabic lands and seizing the sources of energy and looting the bounties of peoples.

We Arabs and Muslims must remain vigilant and alert to this threat. It is our duty to put an end to terrorism and extremism that threaten our countries and people, to preserve our social peace, and friendly relations with other countries and peoples.
